Networking devices and types of networking devices
Computer network devices are also known as communication devices. ,constitute a data communication network . Computer networking is the practice of linking two or more computing devices together for the purpose of sharing data . Network are build with the computer hardware and software . Computer network helps to increase efficiency , reduce cost , cost effective and gives security .

- Modems

Hubs
The central connecting devices in a computer network is known as hub .It can connect multiple networking devices .Hubs are the most simplest way to connect network for the exchange of data. Hubs are mainly used for Local area network {LAN} environment .Hubs do not provide any routing capabilities or any other advanced network securities .Hubs are the most cost efficient way of computer networking .Network hubs are less common today but are used for the simple networking of data .
Types of Network hubs
- Active hub
- Passive hub
Active hubs are also sometimes known as repeaters because it strengthens and repeats the incoming transmissions.
Passive hubs simply connects the devices with wires in star topology .It connects signals with different devices .
Routers
The router is the computer networkin device. A router is a communication device that is used to connect two logically and physically different networks ,two LANs , two WANs and a LAN with a WAN . It helps to connect data over internet .For example , It is used in office network for the data transmission and it can be connected through different states .It uses the routing protocol to transfer the protocol. It is more expensive from the other networking devices such as hubs and switches .
Switches
Network switches mainly appear nearly identical to network hubs , but a switch contains more intelligence (and a slightly higher price tag ) than a network hub .
Network switches are capable of inspecting data packets as they are received , determining the sources and destination devices of that packets and forwarding it appropriately. By delivering each message only to the connected device it was intended for , a network switch conserve network bandwidth and offers generally better performance than a hub . Switches are used in the LAN , MAN and WAN .It connects network devices such as, printers , computers and wireless devices . Switches are the important part because it connects several devices on the same network .
Uses of computer network switch are
- It provides endless ports for connecting devices which helps in star topology .
- It helps to regulate different types of network .
- It increases LAN frequency band
- It helps in MAC address filter to prevent specific nodes from connecting .
Modem
A modem is a communication device that is used to provide the connectivity with the internet .It allows computer , smartphones , tablets , smart televisions and all other devices to connect through internet . It converts digital data in to analog and analog data in to digital data the signals can be transmitted over telephone lines or cable networks . It helps the computer to communicate across the globe .
Modem stands for modulator and demodulator . The modem has ability to encode digital data in to analog format for transmission and after reaching , the analog signals is decoded back in to digital signals so ,that it can be understood and processed by computers .
Modulator helps to convert digital signals into analog and demodulator helps in converting analog signals in to digital signals .

Wireless modem
It is a device which provide air data transmission . wireless modem also refer to the Wi- Fi or bluetooth . It access the internet connectivity without any physical connection .
Cable modems
Cable modems helps in establishing communication between computer and Internet Service Protocol (ISP) over landline connection . Cable modem is a hardware device .It is a two way communication cable network is widely used in many areas
Satellite modem
Satellite modem provide an internet connection through satellite dishes .These modems are more reliable .The main function of satellite modem is to transform an input bitstream to a radio signals and to transform radio signals in to a input bitstream .
Telephone modem
Modem is he device to connect data of computers , smartphone etc. so , in telephone modem the data is transmitted through telephone lines and cable with modulator and demodulator .
LAN card
LAN card or Network adapters are the building blocks of the computer network . No computer can communicate without a properly installed and configured LAN card .LAN card are inserted in to the expansion slots inside the computer. LAN cards are interface card to communicate with network . LAN cards encode the data in to packets to transport and it also provide a physical connection to network .
The LAN card gives the proper destination to the data which is transmitted .The data is separated in to different packets each packet is encoded with additional data for the proper routing .
Bridge
A bridge is a network device and it connects multiple subnetworks and create a single network .It connects a multiple LANs . A bridge is a networking device which connects a larger LAN to a smaller multiple LANs . It operates on OSI model and also known as layer of two switches.
In bridges protocol transparency is higher and it is highly reliable and can be maintained easily .Bridges are expensive as compared to other network devices such as hubs and repeaters .
